Harsh Environment CCTV in Colchester, Essex

Birch Technical Services were instructed to design and install a new CCTV system capable of withstanding the harsh offshore conditions experienced by a crew transport vessel. Following a site survey, the installation took place in Emden, Germany, during a scheduled refurbishment window to minimise vessel downtime.

Our design team proposed a ruggedised solution using marine-grade anti-corrosion technology. This included eight 2MP 316 stainless steel dome cameras, a 2MP PTZ unit with a bespoke bracket, seven internal dark fighter dome cameras, a 16-channel mobile NVR, and a ruggedised POE switch – all mounted with custom vibration-dampening to protect against engine and sea motion.

Cabling was overhauled with new modular field plugs, IP-rated couplers, and BV Class Approved data cabling where required. The system used dual DC power supplies for redundancy and was certified upon completion. The client received full user training, documentation, and a year of full overseas support.
